1/22/2021 0 Comments What's in a Business Name?Confession, for my very first business – I came up with the name in the middle of the night right after my infant toddler woke me up. I had no emotional attachment to the name, it just clicked (more to this story later).
Let me know in the comments how you came up with your business name. With the winter season and more flexible work-from-home schedules, making and selling your own candles seems like the perfect way to start or add to your business. Check below for some need-to-know advice before getting into the candle-selling business!
I would like all entrepreneurs to look at Trademarks and Copyrights as business insurance”
I love sharing my knowledge with strong, women entrepreneurs to help them realize their boss business goals! I sat down with Dr. Kimmy on the Productive on Purpose Podcast to cover HOW to protect your intellectual property. We chat about the basics including what the differences are between trademarks and copyrights, the process involved in deciding on and registering your business trademarks/copyrights, and how to leverage your intellectual property as assets. Check my link in the bio or head over to Productive on Purpose to listen to my full episode (#50)! 1/13/2021 0 Comments Moderna's COVID-10 Patent PledgeWhy would Moderna do this? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Simply put, Moderna is an mRNA-based drug company. They WANT mRNA-based therapies to become a viable alternative in drug development (which is currently dominated by non-mRNA-based vaccines and therapies). By making this statement, Moderna encourages more companies to research and develop mRNA-based therapies and also attracts potential investors in the fledgling industry. More companies and investors, in turn, create a larger and more stable market for the mRNA-based drug industry. Also, note that Moderna DID NOT make any pledges about their COVID-19 patents post-pandemic.⠀ During this episode I discuss what you should ask BEFORE you hire a lawyer for your business Ask yourself….. 1. What is my communication style? Are you a text-er? Do you want quick/immediate responses? Do you prefer phone conversations? Know yourself and find a lawyer that is in alignment with your communication style. Get really clear on expectations when it comes to their policies as it pertains to email responses, returned calls, voicemails, text messages, etc. Most relationships succeed when communication is understood and set as a priority. During a consultation with a lawyer, ask how they prefer to communicate with their clients. If you really prefer text, there is a lawyer for you. If you prefer to talk it out, there is also a lawyer that will do the same. Knowing your communication style before hiring a lawyer should be top priority. 2. Am I ready to make decisions? Your lawyer is your legal advisor. They are not in a position to make the decisions for you. Your lawyer will present options; let you know the risk of those options, and then you (yes you) have to make the final decision. Many times in business, lawyers will present options that all have their own risks (the risk may be legal, financial, reputational, or a combination of the 3). It is ultimately up to the business owner to make the decision, and then, your lawyer will execute the proposed option. 3. Do I believe in my business? You must be 100% committed to the mission of your business. You must believe that your business adds value to your industry and provides a unique experience or perspective for your potential clients. When you truly believe in your business, making tough decisions won’t be an issue for you; and it is easier to accept some risk (there is no business without risk). Believing in your business is critical to its ultimate success. So of course, when you’re ready to hire a lawyer give me a call. You can schedule a free consultation here! |
